As part of a newly announced promotion, megapixel network camera maker IQinVision says it will beat competitors’ bids by up to 10 percent during its “May Megapixel Meet Comp Program,” which runs throughout the month. The offer applies to Axis, Arecont, Mobotix, Sony and Panasonic network cameras.
According to IQinVision President and CEO Peter DeAngelis, the promotion is really meant to inform its partners about the scale of several pricing moves the company has made over the past several months beginning with its basic camera line in January and then across their entire portfolio just before ISC West in April.
“This is kind of meant as a wake up call for our partners and distribution partners to say, ‘you know, you really should take a look at the pricing again, it is already better than the competition,'” DeAngelis said.
The IQinVision president added that there is more competition entering the megapixel market as there would be with any other new technology.
“It is starting from the bottom, which makes sense,” he said. “Kind of the mainstream now would be 1.3 megapixel with more vendors moving into maybe 2 megapixel, with still 3 and 5 megapixel being an elite group of companies that have products in that range. It is a validation of the growth and acceptance of high resolution cameras in the security market.”
